I’m Unique, or Am I?

I have constantly been asking myself lately, “So you’re making a website about food, but there’s a million other websites about food, what makes mine special?” And I’ll be honest, I’m having trouble answering it.

I heard a quote today about new businesses that I really love, “Be first, or be unique.” I know I can’t be the first with a food website. But I can be unique. There’s just so many amazing food blogs and websites out there that it’s becoming and harder and harder to be unique. It’s a competitive market. So I have to be good, real good. Yes, I’m trying to niche down the foods I feature here on the site, but I feel like there has to be more than that.

The story, the way I post recipes, something has to be different than everyone else out there. The good thing is I have learned patience over the past few years of websiting. It doesn’t have to be good right away guys.

I may not hit my stride for five, heck ten years. But I know I will be in it for the long haul. If you are thinking about starting a business or a website and you just know that’s what you want to do, than START. You will figure out the rest later. Fix the plane as you fly, Gary V says.

If you have a general idea of the field you want to be in, just start documenting about it. Talk about it, share pictures, give tips, spill your heart onto the page (if you’re a writer) and just get going! When you figure it out, and you will with enough drive and patience, you will have a solid foundation to build your masterpiece on.
